Chinese Coins

Coins

Chinese coins are a commonly used charm in Feng Shui. It is the most potent symbol of wealth – the square in the centre representing the Earth, whilst the circular outside represents heaven. This symbolises the union between Heaven-Earth-Man (man who uses the coin). They were also created by old advisors of Emperors, who were incidentally also Grand Feng Shui masters. The coins also combine Ying and Yang and attract the dragon’s breath chi.

What coins should I use?

Generally speaking, it is very hard to distinguish an authentic ancient Chinese coin unless you are an expert. Many people are confused what Dynasty coins should be used for good Feng Shui. It is said that the best coins to use are form the Dynasties at the beginning of the Qing Dynasty. Why? Because this was a time of great peace and prosperity in China, with money flowing, therefore this abundance is embedded with the coins of this time. The five auspicious dynasties are as follows;

Dynasty

Year

Shun-chi

1644-1661

Kang-hsi

1662-1722

Yung-cheng

1723-1735

Chien-lung

1736-1796

Chia-ching

1796-1820

As explained before, it is very hard to find authentic coins from this period, however, for Feng Shui purposes; a good replica is also good!

Uses;

There are several ways which the coins can be used;

·         Placed with other wealth symbols like Toads, Qi Lin,  Dragon Headed Tortoise,Pi Xiu etc.

·         Placed inside wealth ships.

·         But in the northwest position in your house. You can also bury some in the North West corner of your garden! This is because the north west is the metal corner and will bring in luck.

·         Used in coin swords which can be used to ward off shar chi and bad luck.
